Two ecosystems growing together: VDA Telkonet and Treedom

Reducing environmental impact means, first and foremost, acting where we can make a tangible difference.

This is the principle behind VDA Telkonet’s commitment: developing technologies that make hospitality environments more efficient, reducing energy consumption and the emissions associated with it.

Applied at scale, this approach can generate a significant impact. Based on the performance of our installed base, we estimate CO₂ savings equivalent to the absorption capacity of around 15 million trees.

But sustainability does not end with technology.

It is a journey shaped by different choices moving in the same direction: greater efficiency, a more conscious use of resources, responsible design, and support for initiatives capable of creating environmental and social value over time.

This is where our partnership with Treedom comes in.

The VDA Telkonet forest was not created to offset the emissions generated by our activities, nor is it a shortcut to climate neutrality. It is a project we have chosen to grow over time, alongside our presence in the hospitality world.

Two ecosystems growing together: on one side, our installed base, with increasingly efficient rooms and buildings; on the other, a real forest made up of trees, territories, farmers and local communities.

Through Treedom, this commitment takes shape in a network of agroforestry projects across different countries, each developed in response to the characteristics of the local ecosystem and the communities involved.

Our forest today: 1,300 trees across 10 countries

Today, our forest counts 1,300 trees, 20 different species and projects across 10 countries, with 11,183 m² of tree cover gain and 130,310 kg of CO₂ absorbed, according to the latest Treedom report.

Our trees grow in Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Tanzania, Malawi, Madagascar, Kenya, Ghana and Cameroon. Among the most represented species are banana, coffee and cocoa trees, alongside papaya, lime, red mangrove and many others.

These figures help us follow the development of the project, but they are only one part of its story.

Different territories, different needs

One of the reasons we chose to work with Treedom is its approach to local contexts.

Across the countries where our forest is growing, agroforestry projects respond to different environmental and social needs: from supporting biodiversity and sustainable agriculture in Colombia, Guatemala and Ecuador, to helping protect soil and water resources in Haiti and Tanzania. Species and activities are selected according to the characteristics of each area and the communities involved.

More than planting trees

For us, the value of this partnership goes beyond the number of trees planted. Treedom’s projects involve farmers, local organizations and communities, connecting environmental action with sustainable agriculturalpractices and local development.

Since 2022, Treedom has also worked with ALTIS – Università Cattolica on a model designed to monitor and assess the wider effects of its agroforestry projects on the stakeholders involved, including areas such assustainable agriculture, personal and economic wellbeing, access to financial resources and the development of local organizations.

Our forest is still growing, just as the work ahead of us continues.

No single action can meet a challenge of this scale. Progress begins when many actions move in the same direction. We have started with our own and we intend to keep it growing.
